PSL title not our target this year: President

Scottland president Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya says the club will be satisfied with fifth place in the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign despite assembling a strong squad.

In a wide-ranging interview with the media at the club offices in Mandara on March 19, Sakupwanya said the coach is aware of the expectations and will be focusing more on building combinations.

Amid expectations that the club president would be targeting the league title on a debut season on the basis of the pre-season investment on players, Sakupwanya said a fifth-place finish will suffice.

“This year we are not looking to be number one, we will be okay with number five. I’ve told the coach he has to get the team to gel, establish combinations. I said to the coach I am happy if you are to be number five because we are using the season to learn and appreciate what the Premier Soccer League is about.

“We are not yet at the level we want but we are going to get there with time. The players are new and some have never played with each other, so it will take time and patience for us to have a free-flowing team.

“The coach is working on finding the right combinations, and I’m sure he will succeed. It’s still work in progress, and our commitment is 100 percent.

“We are not afraid of losing, establishing combinations is not done overnight. After learning the ropes this year, we target number one next year. By then our stadium should be ready as well and we should be ready to battle for the big one and compete in Africa,” said president Sakupwanya.
